Anjara Tour
In just five days, experience the charm of northern Madagascar: wild nature excursions, breathtaking sunsets and authentic villages.
Day 1: Nosy Be – Ankify – Ankarana National Park
Departure from the hotel early in the morning and transfer to the port of Hell-Ville, on Nosy Be island. From here, a private speedboat crossing to reach the small port of Ankify, on the mainland (45min). Upon arrival, continue by car towards the northern interior of Madagascar, crossing the splendid Sambirano valley, famous for being the main cultivation area for Malagasy cocoa.
During the journey, a visit to a local plantation is planned, where it will be possible to discover traditional cocoa cultivation methods, touch natural essences, and learn about the typical plants of the region. An immersive, fragrant, and interesting stop.
After the visit, the journey continues to the village of Mahamasina, the gateway to the famous Ankarana National Park, one of the most spectacular and unique natural areas of Madagascar.
The visit to the park leads through surreal landscapes dominated by the Tsingy Rary and the Grand Tsingy of Benavony, fascinating limestone blade formations. You cross a suspension bridge over deep canyons, visit the mysterious River Gate, and walk inside the baobab forest, an ecosystem rich in endemic fauna and flora.
Day 2: Ankarana – Red Tsingy – Diego Suarez
After breakfast, we will depart towards the village of Anivorano, located in the hinterland of northern Madagascar. The goal of the day is the discovery of one of the country's most extraordinary and lesser-known natural sites: the Red Tsingy.
The journey, approximately 70 km long, largely takes place on asphalted roads, crossing fields cultivated with rice, cashews, and fruit trees. Several rural villages are crossed, offering a glimpse into daily Malagasy life. The last 18 km are traveled on an unpaved red sand track, anticipating the geological spectacle to come.
Once on site, you visit the Red Tsingy Reserve, a lunar landscape formed by pinnacles of red laterite eroded over time, creating deep canyons, natural galleries, and shapes sculpted by wind and water. The combination of the surrounding dry forest and the rock formations creates a truly unique contrast of colors and forms.
After the visit, we depart for Diego Suarez (Antsiranana), a historic colonial city located on the beautiful northern bay.
A brief guided tour of the city will be conducted, including some of the main historical points related to its military and colonial past, with views of Diego Bay and local markets. Time available for shopping or a walk along the promenade.
Day 3: Diego Suarez – Amber Mountain – The Three Bays
The day begins with the departure from Diego Suarez towards the small and quiet village of Joffreville, the access point to Amber Mountain, one of Madagascar's most emblematic national parks.
Located in an area of volcanic origin, Amber Mountain National Park preserves one of the country's last primary tropical rainforests, protected from human impact and rich in biodiversity. During the excursion, you cross paths immersed in lush nature, among tree ferns, wild orchids, medicinal plants, and endemic trees.
This ecosystem hosts seven species of lemurs, including the crowned lemur (Eulemur coronatus), Sanford's brown lemur, the tiny pygmy mouse lemur (Microcebus rufus) – considered the smallest lemur in the world – and, with a bit of luck, even the elusive aye-aye. The trek also leads to suggestive waterfalls, volcanic lakes, and panoramic viewpoints offering splendid views of the northern tip of the island.
After the visit, we leave the forest to head towards the coast, more precisely towards the fishing village of Ramena, the starting point for a spectacular excursion along the Three Bays.
In the afternoon, we explore the enchanting Bays of Sakalava, Dune, and Pigeon: stretches of wild coast with white sand, crystal clear sea, and seabeds rich in marine life. During low tide, it is possible to walk to a small island offshore. The bays are ideal for relaxing walks along the shore, observing multicolored fish, sea urchins, and, with a bit of luck, the smallest and largest baobabs in northern Madagascar. Sakalava Bay, in particular, is much appreciated by kitesurfing and windsurfing enthusiasts.
Day 4: Emerald Island Excursion And Crystal Clear Sea
The day begins early, with departure from the hotel towards Ramena, about 20 minutes from Diego Suarez. Here you will embark on a traditional Malagasy sailboat, a typical and evocative means of transport for exploring the lagoon with its crystal clear waters.
During the navigation, you will cross splendid coral massifs, rich in multicolored fish, a true paradise for snorkeling lovers. While you dive to admire the seabeds, you can observe local fishermen at work, an authentic and fascinating scene.
The landing takes place on a wonderful island where you can relax on the beach and dedicate more time to snorkeling in the transparent waters. A typical Malagasy lunch is planned, with local specialties such as lobster, coconut rice, grilled fish, and fresh crabs, for an unforgettable culinary experience immersed in nature. In the afternoon, navigation resumes for the return to Diego Suarez.
Day 5: Diego Suarez – Nosy Be (245 Km)
The day begins with departure from Diego Suarez towards the small port town of Ankify. Here you will take a private speedboat that will take you directly to Nosy Be.
